I do prefer Vinnie's post-Yamaha sound, which has generally been more open and less of the '80s Gadd/Weckl-type thing he used to have. And I gotta disagree with you, Derek (just my taste, I guess!) re: the Gretsch Chrome-over-brass snare from the 2000 MD fest--it just had a ring that was appealing to me. Maybe it was his touch more than the particular drum? Great sound, though, IMO. But, that N&C Zildjian snare drum on the "Soul Cages" tour was absolutely magical; I wish they would make more of them these days! I actually played on one of the newer issues last year, and it was wonderful, but I couldn't justify $1500 for a snare drum. [img]graemlins/cry.gif[/img]

Of the ones i've listened to so far, VC's snare sound on a few of those Sting mp3s that Dazz posted a while back [it was a whole show, Chicago sessions, perhaps?!], was incredible, esp since the mix didnt sound to me to be quite a "final" / slick, max produced one... [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img] [img]cool.gif[/img]

Likewise, some of these great hip-hop/funk road & session drumrs have some great soundg snares...

Ayotte's are made here. They are great drums, and I have had a tour of the factory. It's really a shame that the founder if no longer with them, as he is now making TAYE drums. Politics suck.

I will seek out that track! What kind of Ayotte was it? Keplinger? Wood hoops?

Hey Tom, mind posting the specs for that session again? I thought that was one of my all time favorite drum/cymbal sounds.

Oh, and I saw a white BRASS Vinnie snare on Ebay for those interested. (K&S Music) I didn't even know they made that.
